Support at home
Parent Resources
Simple, practical ways to help your student build confidence, explain their thinking, and keep moving forward in math.
Start here
Find a math topic
You do not have to reteach the whole lesson.
MathBinder gives families short explanations, worked examples, videos, practice choices, and conversation starters. Begin with the student’s current lesson and use one small support at a time.
Ask what they notice
Before correcting the work, ask your student to explain what the problem is asking and which step feels confusing.
Use the lesson tabs
Move through Teach It, Watch It, and Practice It. The Parent Help tab provides lesson-specific prompts and a five-minute review.
Celebrate the revision
Focus on the thinking that improved—not only the final answer. Productive struggle helps mathematical confidence grow.
A helpful routine
Try the 5–10–5 approach
- 5 minutes: Read the lesson overview and identify the goal.
- 10 minutes: Watch one video or work through one example together.
- 5 minutes: Let the student try one problem independently and explain the strategy.
When your student is stuck
Questions that support thinking
- What do you already know?
- Can you draw, model, or estimate it?
- Where did your answer stop making sense?
- Which example in the lesson looks most similar?
- How could you check your answer another way?
